Healthwatch Brent welcomes new Chair
Shyama brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the role, with a background as a writer, journalist and broadcaster and experience as Chair of the South Asian Diaspora Arts Archive.
The Healthwatch Brent Advisory Group is responsible for agreeing the priority areas that our team will focus on. They also share their knowledge and experience, helping to make key decisions and giving guidance on projects. The Advisory Group is made up of representatives from the community and voluntary sector, independent experts, members of the public and Healthwatch Brent volunteers.
Shyama said, “With the poorest people living in the poorest areas waiting the longest times for NHS treatment, it’s vital that local voices inform the decisions and behaviours of local providers.
"As Chair of Healthwatch Brent's Advisory Group, I will ensure that we are not just collecting and sharing your testimonies, but holding feet to the fire to see your feedback translated into positive actions benefitting our communities.”
Shyama joins us six months after The Advocacy Project were awarded the contract for running Healthwatch Brent, taking the organisation in an exciting new direction. In order to make a real impact we believe that Healthwatch Brent needs to be deeply embedded in the local community, working from the ground up to identify the real issues affecting the people of Brent. We are also forming strong links with local policy and decision-makers, which will allow us to be more effective in driving improvement and influencing change.
