Mental health and distress helplines
If you or a loved one are experiencing self-harm or distressing thoughts, here are some helplines to contact.
Single Point of Access

This service is for:
- Anyone living in Brent
- People experiencing a mental health crisis
- It's also open to children and adults of all ages, to people who haven’t previously used mental health services and to carers and family members who might be concerned about someone.
- Samaritans: a confidential support service for anyone experiencing distress or despair.

- National Suicide Prevention Helpline UK: offers a supportive listening service to anyone with thoughts of suicide.
Phone: 0800 689 5652 (6pm to midnight every day).
- Papyrus: a helpline service to people under 35 who are experiencing thoughts of self-harm or suicide, or concerned about a young person struggling.

- CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably): a helpline for anyone who needs help.
Phone: 0800 58 58 for free.
If you prefer not to speak on the phone, you could try the CALM webchat service.
- Switchboard: If you identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender and wish receive support.
Phone: 0300 330 0630 (10am–10pm every day). Phone operators all identify as LGBT+.

- The Silverline: is for anyone over 55. They provide friendship, conversation, and support.

- Shout: If you would prefer not to talk but want some mental health support, Shout offers a confidential 24/7 text service providing support if you are in crisis and need immediate help.
